Faced with increasing competition, Chinese universities try their best to promote their comprehensive power. Some universities choose to merge with other universities and others choose to increase their sizes and strengthen dominant disciplines. The following ten universities have the largest campuses in China. Let us take a look at their unique attributes as well as comprehensive power.

   Zhengzhou University

Zhengzhou University consists of three universities: Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University.



Established in 2000, Zhengzhou University is a university co-founded by the Henan Provincial Government and the State Ministry of Education, operating 11 disciplines such as science, technology, art, medicine, literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management, agriculture and education.

It consists of three universities: Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University and has four main campuses including New Campus, South Campus, Technological Institute and Medical School.

Zhengzhou University has a grand running scope and rich faculty resources, including 43 schools and departments, five affiliated hospitals, 169 scientific organizations, two key laboratories of the State Ministry of Education and one State Research Base for Clinical Practice of Medicine. Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is a comprehensive national university as well as one of the earliest modern academies of higher learning established in China. Huazhong University of Science and Technology is the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Urban Construction Institute.



Founded in 2000, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education. It is the merger of the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Urban Construction Institute. Due to picturesque environment, elegant surroundings and 72% plant coverage, it is known as the “University in the Forest”.

At present, the University has 11 disciplines: engineering, medicine, management, science, philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history and agriculture, offering a variety of degree programs, including 86 undergraduate programs, 303 graduate programs, 237 PhD programs.    South China Agricultural University

Founded in 1908, South China Agricultural University (SCAU) is a national comprehensive university with long history. Its main campus settles in Wushan, Guangzhou City. It was newly established in July 2005 through the merger of former Southwest China Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University upon the approval of the Ministry of Education.

SWU operates 31 colleges and five national key disciplines and excels in a number of disciplines including pedagogy, psychology and agronomy. Among them, the silkworm genome research project takes the lead in the world, and fundamental psychology and pedagogy have taken a national lead.

   Inner Mongolia Agricultural University

   Civil Aviation Flight University of China

CAFUC has many facilities, including five well-equipped flight-training airports in Xinjin, Guanghan, Mianyang and Suining, of Sichuan, and Luoyang of Henan.



Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) operates seven colleges and is the only full-time regular institution of higher education for civil aviation pilots, as well as technicians of other civil aviation specialties and high-quality professionals in engineering, management and arts required by national economy under the direct jurisdiction of CAAC. With the educational pattern of flight orientation and comprehensive development, it has become the largest university of civil aviation in Asia with world reputation.

CAFUC has many facilities, including five well-equipped flight-training airports in Xinjin, Guanghan, Mianyang and Suining, of Sichuan, and Luoyang of Henan, and 14 types of planes and a fleet of 166 aircraft for Instructional Training use. They also have 30 support simulators and exercisers. Fifty-nine flight instructors have the Meritorious Pilot title and about 100 are awarded golden, silver or copper medals of safe flying. It has also won the honorable titles such as “National Advanced Primary Party Organization” and “National Model Unit of Safe Flying”, “In recent years CAFUC has made extraordinary achievements in aviation safety.

During the past 50 years, CAFUC has not only cultivated a large amount of pilots and ground technical professionals for Chinese civil aviation, but also a large number of pilots from many countries including Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

   Jilin Agricultural University
